Call for entry for the design, realization and implementation of artistic interventions in the Terre-Neuve, van der Weyden and Tanneurs tunnels as part of operation 2.2 of the Sustainable Neighbourhood Contract “Jonction.”
Within the framework of this operation 6 neighbouring tunnels underneath of the railway of the North-South connection will be transformed into durable art installations. The shortlist for the first 3 tunnels (Basse, Sallaert and Fontein) is already in process or has ended.
The second round (Terre-Neuve, van der Weyden and Tanneurs) is now open and accepting applications.
Project proposals should include a participatory approach that feeds the artistic intention, resulting in inclusive projects with a strong cultural inscription in the neighbourhood. We are looking for projects that stimulate an active appropriation and use of public space, that engage with the city and it's inhabitants. During the process preceding the instalment of the work, the artists will work closely with a team of Recyclart to establish contacts with the neighbourhood and set up a series of public events or workshops for the inhabitants.
The project aims to:
- Enhance the tunnels in terms of attractiveness and boost the sense of security.
- Stimulate the circulation and connection between the neighbourhoods of Marolles and Anneessens.
- Develop a new dynamic in places that are currently neglected.
- Upgrade the neighbourhood with original artwork contributing to positive identity.
Deadline for Submission: June 5th 2017, (NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED).
